Toughening Process

High-quality tempered glass processes rely on precise thermal toughening operations. Under severe heating (approx. 680–700°C) followed by rapid air quenching, compressive stresses develop on the surface while tensile forces reside in the core. This stress profile gives the glass its superior mechanical properties.

Spontaneous Shattering

Unlike composite alternatives, toughened glass possesses a crucial self-monitoring mechanism: when damaged, the unit shatters into tiny, non-hazardous particles. This "spontaneous shattering" makes faults visually obvious during ground-based inspections, eliminating the need for expensive diagnostic tests.

Residual Strength

Even in the rare event of shell breakage, the remaining cap-and-pin stub retains up to 80% of its rated mechanical strength. This prevents immediate line drops and ensures grid integrity until routine maintenance can take place.

Materials Chemistry & Production Control

Our factories utilize ultra-pure silica sand blended with high-grade soda ash and limestone to yield glass with exceptional thermal stability. Melting takes place in state-of-the-art oxygen kilns at temperatures exceeding 1500°C. This ensures complete homogenization, minimizing microscopic impurities like nickel sulfide (NiS) inclusions, which are the main cause of spontaneous failure under mechanical load.

Mechanical strength is verified through rigorous type testing conformant to international IEC standards (IEC 60305, IEC 60383). Each insulator disk is matched with highly robust malleable iron caps and forged steel pins, bonded together using premium aluminate cement. This prevents galvanic corrosion and ensures dependable load transfer over decades of operation.

Continuous research and development has led to specialized profiles tailored to extreme conditions. Aerodynamic shapes allow wind and rain to naturally wash away industrial dust and coastal salt deposits. This prevents dangerous dry bands from forming and protects against flashover incidents.
